Real stone fireplaces have all but disappeared; the current trend favors fake stone fireplaces. Combining the strength and elegance found in real stones, with the light weight and custom molded designs you end up with a product that is both versatile and economical. The term fake stone fireplaces initially may sound like an inferior product, but the fact is it is a much superior product.

There are hundreds of suppliers and manufacturers that offer fake stone fireplaces, each has there own unique process for manufacturing stone products. It is beyond the scope of this article to list them all but you can find resources on this site to assist in your research. There are some general similarities however. Many go through the process of creating hundreds if not thousands of molds in a variety of styles; to this they add their own blend of materials and colors.
