What are Fireplace Inserts ?
Basically fireplace inserts are designed to be
installed into an existing fireplace location and convert
the operation of that fireplace to another fuel source.
Other fuel sources include wood, gas, and propane. Of these
the most popular used to be the wood burning fireplace insert but do to
restrictions in some areas regarding wood burning
appliances, gas fireplace inserts are rapidly increasing in
popularity and are becoming the preferred choice of many
consumers. When compared to the other styles of fireplaces
available you will find that fireplace inserts offer the
same convenience and safety features.
If you decide to install a fireplace insert you need to
ensure that the chimney is equipped with an approved vent,
this may require you to reline the chimney. Modifications to
your chimney may be required depending on what type you
install i.e. wood fireplace inserts, gas fireplace inserts
or another type, please check with the manufacturer for
details. The direct vent is perhaps the easiest to install
and most energy efficient of the available venting
systems.
Of the inserts available gas units offer the consumer
the most features. Convenient features include remote
control operation, gas logs and adjustable flame heights.
Many of the gas fireplace inserts are excellent at
providing warm air circulation, but this could be improved
further by adding a fan unit. The fan kits work either by
manually turning the fan off and on or if your fireplace
model allows it you can install a fan kit with a built in
thermostat that adjusts automatically keeping a constant
temperature. Adding a screen or some other type of
accessory will add to overall look of your
fireplace.
