Natural Vent Fireplace

To remove the combustion gases from the firebox to the outdoors you will require some type of venting. One method of doing this is called natural draft venting. Also known as a natural vent fireplace, this type of venting takes advantage of the fact that hot air rises, causing a draft of combustion gases to move up the flue to the outdoors.

A natural vent fireplace also requires a draft hood; the draft hood uses the air from inside the house to isolate the burner from the fluctuations of pressure from the outdoors. This type of fireplaces often uses a B-vent but it can also use your existing chimney, if you are able to use the existing chimney you must make sure that you use an approved liner in the chimney.

Because a natural vent fireplace requires a vertical chimney to operate properly, it is somewhat limited to where it can be installed. As with all fireplace installations I recommend it be installed by a qualified professional.
